Line Fong Ching Sent

Line Fong Ching Sent (Lionel) passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Center, Calgary on November 6, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Lionel is sadly missed and will always be remembered by Tsao Fa (Jeannette), beloved wife and partner-in-life over sixty-four years, and children: Lorna (Clifford Chan-Yan), Lynnette (Jan Swart – deceased), Brenda (Christopher Low), Sandra, Evan (Stephanie), Matthew (Joanna), Leon (Cynthia), Pamela (Michael Webb), and grandchildren: Deborah Chan-Yan (Keith Anderson), Sharon Chan-Yan (Daniel Jenkin), Charisse Low (Jackie Ma), Jaclyn Low (Justin Wallace), Lara Low, John Chu, Cherry-Angela Tak (Carl Fung), Jonathan Tak, Catherine Sent, Sean Sent, Ashleigh Sent, Michael Sent, Daniel Webb, Rachel Webb, and great-grandchildren: Taryn, Cassidy, and Brendan Anderson; Caitlin and Oliver Ma; and “Bump” Jenkin; sadly predeceased by: sons, Thomas (1949) and Deane (1971). Lionel was born in Meixien, rural China, in humble circumstances, and immigrated to South Africa in his teen years. Despite a lack of formal education, he established himself as a well-respected and successful businessman and leader in the Chinese community. He was passionate about sport (tennis, boxing, badminton, F1-motor racing), and enjoyed stylish cars. At all times, he put family first and pursued the education and betterment of his children. After retirement, Lionel immigrated to Canada to stay close with his family. Devoted husband and father, Lionel leaves behind a legacy in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, spread across four continents, having passed on the eternal values of dignity, honesty, respect for self and others, and hope for the future. A Funeral Service was held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street NW, Calgary, on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 10:00a.m. Family and friends were invited to Lionel’s Celebration of Life on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Arbutus Club, 2001 Nanton Avenue (at Arbutus Street), Vancouver at 6:30p.m. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Calgary Health Trust Grateful Patients and Families Program, designated to the Foothills Medical Center.
