With great sadness our beloved father Lloyd Spencer Traptow passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from complications suffered from a recent stroke.
Dad was born in Calgary, Alberta on February 12, 1931 to Molly and Rudolph and lived his entire life here as a proud ‘Native Calgarian’. Lloyd is survived by his wonderful wife of 61 years, Vi; his children, Keith (Laurel) and children Elliott and Denton; Paul (Shawna) and children Josh, Jarrett, and Joel; Karen Dunnet (Bruce) and children Sarah and Marshall; Murray (Kathy) and children Bryson, Tyler, and Luke as well as his brother, Doug (Ella) of Victoria. Lloyd will also be remembered fondly by all of the friends he made during his 83 years. Lloyd attended Western Canada High School and turned a summer job and a passion for art into a 49 year career at Taylor Signs, retiring as the owner in 1996. In retirement, Dad and Mom enjoyed traveling, which included many trips to Maui, RVing around Alberta and BC, and many memorable vacations with family at destinations around North America. He loved to help people, which included membership and volunteer work with Central United Church, St. Cyprians Scouts, Banff Trail Community, the Probus Club of Calgary, the Austrian Canadian Club, Native Calgarian Society, the Royal Canadian Legion, and other organizations. His true passions were his family, friends, dancing and skating. Dad was a warm and caring person to any one he met and will be remembered as a multi-talented, smart, kind, loving, gentle, faithful and hard-working man. We all loved him dearly, and will miss his smiles, hugs, laughter and unwavering love. His family would like to thank the staff of Unit 100 at Foothills Hospital for their compassionate and dedicated care of Dad during his final days.
