Lorraine Sophie Bertsch

October 20, 1928 – July 13, 2012

Lorraine Sophie Bertsch passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside in Calgary, AB on Friday, July 13, 2012, at the age of 83 years. Lorraine was predeceased by her loving husband of forty years, Arthur, in 2004. She will always be remembered by her son John (Crystal), grandchildren Sawyer and Mckenna; son Brian (Marie) grandchildren Paige, Tim, Chance, Cruz and Madax; and her daughter Leanne (Jim), grandchildren Kaylee, Kelsey and Max. Lorraine is also survived by her sister Rev. Sister Sabina of Regina; her brother John (Janet) Koronkiewicz and his family: Clinton, George, John, Ross, Scott; and their families, of Sedley Saskatchewan. Lorraine will be remembered as a loving sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and great aunt. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, but remained strong and perpetuated the family spirit throughout her lifetime. Lorraine always had a special place in her heart for each of her grandchildren, and always had an ear for good conversation. She loved having tea and visiting. Lorraine taught school for over four decades. She started in a one room school house in southern Saskatchewan and finished the bulk of her teaching years with the Calgary Catholic School Board. Lorraine was a friend to and enjoyed the friendship of many colleagues and former students right up until her passing. She had a deep spiritual commitment for everything in life as well, and continued to be an active member in the Ascension Catholic Church Community. Lorraine and Arthur also enjoyed decades of attendance as part of the parish at St. Lukes Roman Catholic Church while raising their family. The immediate family wishes to convey a most sincere thank you to all those who have cared for our dear sister, mother and grandmother over the last few months, and a special thanks to all of her friends who took the time to visit. A very special thank you to the nurses and caregivers who made Lorraine’s journey that much easier. Visitation was held at Ascension Roman Catholic Church, 1100 Berkshire Blvd., NW, Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday July 18th, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass followed at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ignatius Tran presiding.
