Lou was born in Banff Alberta on September 29th, 1935. She was predeceased by her parents Carmen (Curley) Chiarizio and Vincenzina (Vera) Chiarizio (nee Colonna). She spent her early life in what she described as the beautiful Canadian Rockies at Field B.C. There she met the love of her life Joe, attended school, self-studied music and enjoyed the outdoors. She moved to find her fame and fortune and while it is still hotly contested as to who followed who, she and Joe arrived in Calgary and married at St. Josephs Church in 1958.
She is survived by her only sibling Joseph (Joe) Chiarizio, husband Joseph, son Robert (Bob)and his wife Carla, Grandchildren Joey Gruszecki (spouse Nicole), Rob Gruszecki (spouse Sarah), Holly Gruszecki and her Great Grandchild, Brodie Hunter Gruszecki. To her, family equated to constant joy.
She spent every waking hour raising her only child Robert and immersed herself into whatever interested him. In early years she was a surrogate Mother / Block parent to every youngster in the neighborhood that young Robby brought home. Lou was the finest hockey Mom on the planet and attended games with pride as she cheered for Bob from pee wee to Major Junior in Calgary. She was often seen leading the fans and coaching the coaches - including Scotty Munro with the Calgary Centennials.
Lou volunteered in the Community Association, raising funds for skating rinks and new halls and was a loyal supporter of The Conservation Education movement at AHEIA. She is considered the Matriarch of the Alberta Hunter Education Instructors Association. She volunteered with AHEIA every way possible, especially at the Calgary Firearms Centre in later years where she made many lifelong friends.
Lou led a full and active life surrounded by friends and family. She held a masters degree in Making People Smile with her warmth and affection.
A very heartfelt note of gratitude to the Doctors and nursing staff at the South Calgary Health Campus and to the staff who assisted Lucy during her time in Palliative care at home through Alberta Health Services and "Wee Care".
