Manfred Merkel

Manfred Merkel was born in Hamburg, Germany on April 1, 1952. He decided to come over to Canada to have a new start in the 1970’s. As a young 20 year old he continued his hospitality career until he found a new interest in insurance. This started his love for numbers and organization. Many of his clients throughout the years would call him caring, warm hearted, friendly, generous, and one who always made a lasting impression on anyone he was acquainted with. Manfred has had many accomplishments since coming to Canada, he enjoyed traveling and seeing the outdoors. There is not many areas throughout the world that he has not touched. In 1982 Manfred married Darlene and they would have celebrated 41 years together in May.

Manfred is survived by wife Darlene Merkel, daughter Miranda Lock, son-in-law Andrew Lock and 3 grandsons Ethan (14 Years), Reegin (12 Years) and Wade (18 Months)

Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) Friday March 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

Interment will follow at a later day.

If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to Miranda Lock, as a memorial flower bed will be made in his honor including a bench with a plaque.
