He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years Silvina; children Lucia (Dan), Lina (Rob) and Antony; and by his sister Eulalia. Manuel was predeceased by his parents Antonio and Angelina; brothers Eduardo and Gilberto. Manuel was born July 21, 1934 in the village of Calheta de Nesquim on the island of Pico, Azores, Portugal. Before his twelfth birthday Manuel lost his father and by age fourteen was working to help his mother and siblings. In 1957 Manuel immigrated on his own to Canada. In 1960 he returned to Pico to bring his new bride back to Kitchener, Ontario. In 1969 Manuel, following the construction boom, moved his young family west to Calgary, Alberta.
