August 30, 1937 – Thursday, May 30, 2019
Margo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 81 years. She was born on August 30, 1937 in Victoria, British Columbia.
She is survived by her husband, James Campbell Moore, daughter, Carolyn Moore, son, Victor Moore, daughter-in-law, Ronda Moore, son-in-law Dr. Curtis Ponton; grandchildren Elais Ponton (Gary Dinh), Brianna Ponton, Covy Moore, and Brady Moore. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Fowler Graham (nee Godfrey) and Robert Graham.
Margo loved her youth growing up in Victoria, BC. She swam competitively in the Crystal Gardens pool in Victoria and in the ocean around Vancouver Island. Margo started working as a candy girl at a local theatre at the age of 14, which began after the manager asked if she could bring her pet monkey, Mike, to help promote the movie “African Queen.” Margo and Jim married in 1955 and started their new life in Burnaby, BC. When Margo won at the horse races, she put her money towards buying a car, and then took driving lessons. Margo’s adventurous spirit, and car, took Carolyn and Victor, rolling around in the back of a blue Vauxhall (Blue Babe), all over the lower mainland to roller-skate, fish, shop and visit friends. When Jim was relocated to Calgary, Alberta, in 1969, Margo took it in full stride. Margo joined the New Comers Club in Calgary and made people feel welcome to her new Alberta home. In Calgary, she also started her 25 year career in retail working for Sears in the jewelry department. Margo lived a short time in Toronto, Ontario, then returned to Calgary to work again for Sears. Margo loved to travel, especially to Hawaii, California, and China. She once stated after holding a baby panda in China that it was the "highlight of her life.” Margo was the life of the party and the “fun” Grandma Neechee and Nana. She loved her family deeply and never failed to tell us. We are grateful for Ronda and Victor’s loving care and devotion to Mom in her last years as she suffered through Alzheimer’s disease. With twinkling blue eyes, may she forever now laugh and dance. Our hearts ache at her loss. She will be greatly missed by all.
A special thank you to Margo’s many guardian angels; Dr. Joe Carson, Dr. Shereen Nessim, the compassionate caregivers at George Boyack 4th Floor North Wing, and Ann for keeping a watchful eye on our Mom.
A private family celebration of Margo’s life will take place at a later date.
