Maria Aimola was a loving and kindhearted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on January 15, 2023 at the age of 67. She was born to Ida (née Salvatore) and Americo Aimola on December 17, 1955 in Bogota, Colombia. Maria was the eldest of five, her siblings are: Frank, Patricia, Sergio and Alfredo.
After living in Colombia, the family chased their dreams to move to Canada and established roots in Merritt, BC. Maria moved to Fort Nelson, BC where she raised her two daughters Sabrina and Angela. Eventually they moved to Calgary, Alberta where they spent their time together going to Latino festivals, having picnics around the city and going for long walks in Fish Creek Park.
Maria enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family and friends. Maria always entertained friends inviting them over for big dinners, making her famous paella and dancing to cumbia music. She loved sharing stories about her time in Colombia and Italy. She loved travel and adventure. She especially loved Libby, the adopted family cat. All the little things in life brought great joy to Maria. She loved a quiet evening with her daughters and to watch romance movies. When Maria moved to Calgary she explored the local hiking trails where she could practice her love of photography, taking photos of all things beautiful... especially the wildflowers. Anyone who knew Maria would mention her hilarious sense of humour. Maria made friends wherever she went, her vibrant and charismatic personality was contagious to everyone she met.
Maria is survived by her family who will continue to honour her legacy by living their lives to the fullest:
her daughters Sabrina (Chase) and Angela (Christian); granddaughters Penny and Willa; mother Ida; brothers Frank (Sophie), Sergio, and Alfredo (Tina); sister Patricia (Eddie), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Maria joins her father Americo Aimola in heaven amongst many others. Maria's memory and vibrant energy will forever be cherished and remembered by all those who loved her.
A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.
