While in Burnaby, Maria got to attend her Grandson Stephan’s wedding and spend cherished time with three great-grandchildren; Gabriele, Evelyn and Enzo. Developing a special bond with the eldest, Gabriele, who was named after her husband. Proud of his name, Gabriele loved to wear his great grandfather’s hat.
Maria is lovingly remembered by her daughter Luciana Del Ciotto, grandsons Gino, Michael, Stephen (Angie) and Anthony, her son Lorenzo Civitarese (Angela) and grandchildren Delano and Aleta Civitarese. Maria enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, baking, and sharing bread, playing cards and bingo, enjoying Italian music and sharing the beauty of her and Gabriele’s treasured garden. Maria took pride in her geraniums, selling the abundance to neighbors and friends from their Varsity home. She and Gabriele loved to host large parties for family and friends; they spent many early mornings preparing lamb and bread and many late nights dancing and enjoying the company of family and friends. In her later years, Maria’s family found themselves with an abundance of blankets and slippers as Maria demonstrated her love by knitting for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family pets Badger and Shya.
Maria felt very comfortable and loved by the staff at the Fellburn Senior Care Center, who would hold her hand as she fell asleep.
