Marie was born and raised on the family homestead in White Star, Saskatchewan. She was the youngest of three children. Marie loved the farm life and being outside doing whatever chores were needed and hanging out with her brother Charlie and sister Theresa. Marie recalls a time when her dad allowed her to climb the ladder on the grain bin during harvest and help the guys. Marie’s dad was so impressed with her work ethic he sent her to town and had her mother buy her a leopard print coat. She felt very fancy and upscale and was so proud of that coat.
As she got older she loved to go fishing, dancing and playing horseshoes among many other things. She always said she could never beat her brother Charlie at fishing but kicked his butt in horseshoes.
Marie moved to Calgary in 1953 and married John in 1961 where they raised their family before losing her beloved John in 2019. She and John travelled a lot throughout the years with John’s work at United News as well as vacations in hot destinations. She loved to fly and really loved to fly in the floatplanes to her daughter’s fishing lodge in northern Saskatchewan. She loved lake life and she and John spent many summers camping and fishing at White Sawn, Sandy Lake and McTavish Lake, all located in Saskatchewan.
Marie was a stay-at-home mom but had some work life over the years at Burns Meats, and United News (where she met John). She was a seamstress, with her lifelong friend Dorothy Brann, among a few other things. Marie volunteered her time to STARS Ambulance, the Legion Million Dollar Lottery as well as being a lifelong member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion Ogden Branch in Calgary.
Marie had a wonderful sense of humour. She was sassy and had beautiful laugh that was loved by many.
Marie is survived by her children Ricky (Helene) Culhane, Rick (Lori) Hazelton, Brenda (Ron) Taschuk and Sandra Paterson; her five grandchildren, Tim, Terri, TJ, Julie, and Brent; four great grandchildren, Mikayla, Serena, Chiara, and Lyla;, her sisters in-law Violet Legge, and Irene Patterson, her brother in-law Don (Shirley) Hazelton; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews near and far. Marie was predeceased by her husband of 63 years John, son, Clifford John parents Emile and Simone LeMoal; brother Charlie (Doreen) LeMoal, sister Theresa (Lionel) Neil; brothers in law, Harold Legge and Frank Patterson.
Heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Ike Muotoh, Nurse Tilda, Nurse Anna and the team from Palliative Home Care, for their loving care of Marie. Your kindness and devotion to Marie will never be forgotten.
