I remember Mrs. Jefferies as a great teacher and certainly someone who opened my eyes to the sciences and engineering and encouraged one to be inquisitive about everything.   I also remember the loud pop when igniting hydrogen gas in test tubes with a wooden splint - Mrs. Jeffries made science fun!

Dear Family of Marion Jefferies,
I am very sorry for your loss.  I thought you would like to know that Mrs. Jefferies (as I called her) was my high school chemistry teacher at Saguenay Valley High School (I was there from 1976-1978, and my father Jean-Marie Poirier (now retired) worked for Alcan).  I always refer to Mrs. Jefferies as the teacher that really turned me on to science, and I admired her strict no-nonsense approach.  I can still remember learning about the Periodic Table (wow!), how to use a Bunsen burner and a slide rule, and all the other great things she taught back then.  I went on to earn a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from McGill in 1991.  The love of science and technology that she fostered in me has been transferred to some of my own children (I have 4). One of my daughters just graduated (at age 20) with a degree in Chemistry from U of Ottawa and she aims to become a university professor, having already started her Master's degree.  I can only imgagine what a pioneer Mrs. Jefferies was in her day, and admire her very much for having a lifelong career while raising 5 children.

My condolences to the Jefferies family.  Mrs Jefferies was my chemistry teacher for the one year I spent at Saguenay Valley High in 1968/69. Her classes were always exciting.

On behalf of my mother Freda and our family we would like to offer our condolences first to Grace on the loss of her husband and secondly to the entire family on the loss of your clever and concerned mother.  We have many fond memories of her especially from school in Arvida.  Freda and your mother walked home together often and her teaching inspired Morgan's interest in Chemistry.  Our thoughts are with you all,  With love, Freda and Morgan Jooste and family.

I knew Marion from my childhood days growing up in Kenogami.  She was a great family friend and a fine person.  I worked with Alice for a summer.  After visiting Jack and Marion in Arvida in 1984, Marion and I have exchanged Christmas cards ever since.  I will miss the news of the family which she held so dear to her heart.  My sympathies to all the family.

Marion was a very special friend to me and gave me great joy in healing and maintaining her health! I loved to visit with her and chat about her life as a Chemistry teacher, and mother of five children. She was very proud of all of her children and grandchildren.
