

Marion Blackburn Jefferies passed away peacefully in Calgary on Sunday, April 1, 2012. Marion was born in Nanton, AB, Feb 2, 1922 and attended the University of Alberta on scholarship in 1939. She graduated with a degree in Honours Chemistry in 1944 and moved to the Saguenay region of Quebec to work for Alcan Aluminum Co. In 1947 she married Jack Jefferies (deceased 1993). Marion taught Chemistry at Saguenay Valley High School, Arvida, Qc. from 1967-1980. She earned a B.Ed. from the University of New Brunswick in 1970. After retiring from school teaching she worked for Alcan doing technical literature research at their library on computer. In 1984 she retired from Alcan and moved to Cochrane, AB to be near her children living in the Calgary area. She is survived by her children Grace, Alice (Jim Davis), Carol, Glenna (Dave Genoud) and Thomas (Liz Werner); grandchildren Christina (Colin), Charles (Nicole), Katelyn, Hayden, Alexandra, Dominique and great-grandchildren Jack and Robbie. Marion moved into Calgary in 2001 and has enjoyed being close to her children and grandchildren. The funeral is to be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel (3220 4th St NW Calgary) on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (#200, 119 – 14 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta T2N 1Z6).
