Marion, the eldest of eight children, was born on the family farm near Elie, Manitoba, on December 2, 1923. She grew up on the farm with her loving parents and siblings and often spoke fondly of her white pony Queen, and the many animals she cared for. Her early years shaped her lifelong love of family, faith, and simple joys.
In 1946, on a snowy spring day she loved to recall, Marion married Lucien (Lou) Lamy in Winnipeg, Manitoba, upon his return from the war. Their story began through letters exchanged during his service—letters that blossomed into a love lasting 75 years. Together, they built a life filled with devotion, travel & adventure, laughter, and family.
Marion and Lou raised four children: Dennis (late Vi) Lamy, Al (Betty) Lamy, Carol (Charlie) Clegg, and Brenda (Harry) Pesonen. Her home was always filled with warmth, the smell of baking, the sound of sewing, the challenge of a game of crib, ten pennies or crazy eights ("a card laid is a card played") and her famous flaky pie crusts, breads, canned salmon, and chocolate chip & shortbread cookies.
A woman of deep faith, Marion was a founding member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church (1965), where she sang in the choir, shared her talents in the Dorcas group, and joyfully mentored others through her example of kindness and generosity.
She is lovingly remembered and survived by her four children, eight grandchildren Sheila, David, Shelley, Stacey, Jaime, Adam, Kristy and Robin (Honourary Pallbearers), fifteen great-grandchildren Chloe, Reese, Rylie, Shane, Quist, Meirah, Kaden, Isabella, Olive, Oscar, Lexi, Emma, Kara, Jaxin and Adrian , her last remaining sibling Sharon, and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Marion was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lou, in 2021, as well as by six of her siblings.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4th Street NW, Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Jo Mader officiating. For those wishing to attend the service virtually, may do so by clicking the link below the service information.
Interment will take place on June 5, 2026, when Marion will return to Siffleur Falls, and ascend Normandy Peak to rest alongside Lou as Assistant Guardian of the Mountain.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Food Bank (https://cavss.ca/), a cause close to both Marion and Lou’s hearts.
