It is with saddened hearts that the family of Mary Ann Copot announce her peaceful passing on March 6, 2017. Born in Stornoway, Saskatchewan on November 5, 1923, she was the eldest of 9 children born to Metro and Anna Wintonyk. Mom grew up in the area of Dunleath, Saskatchewan on the family farm. She enjoyed the farm life but wanted more. Completing her education and working in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Mary moved to Edmonton in 1947. This is where Mary met the love of her life, Murray. Mary and Murray married on June 11, 1949, and were soul mates for 62 years before Murray’s passing on March 14, 2011. Mary and Murray’s life is celebrated by their five children and spouses; Terry (Sharon) Copot, Ruth Copot (Harry Hobbs), Debbie (Tom) Peacock, Joanne (Keith) Leggat and Carol (Jim) Stone. They will also be celebrated by their 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: Sarah and Gerald Safranka (Ellis and Maeve), Kyle Stone, Chad Leggat, Greg Peacock, Mike Copot (Tory Berger), Ryan and Jenna Stone (Jett, Harper and Scarlett), Julie Peacock-Armit and Kyle Armit, Colin and Ashlee Stone (Camden and Myla) and Chris and Jen Copot. Mary is survived by her sisters: Vi Heller, Ruth (Bob) McKee and her brother Dr. Bob (Su) Wintonyk. Mary was predeceased by her brothers: Orest Wintonyk and Albert Wintonyk, and sisters: Lenore Miller, Ethel Jordon, and Verna Parslow. Mary is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mary’s true passion was her family. Mom loved each one equally and was never judgmental. Mary always found the positive in everything. Mary had a green thumb, and it showed in her magnificent vegetable gardens and her beautiful flowers. Mary also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. One of Mom’s favourite activities was bridge, where she made lifelong friends. Mom was always up for a game of crib and liked doing crossword puzzles and word finds. Mary and Murray were always supportive of their children and grandchildren, especially grandchildren’s activities from sporting events to school functions to birthday parties. Mary enjoyed family get-togethers, perogy pinching parties, Halloween parties and especially our family Christmas Eve, which were always full of love and laughter. Mary and Murray enjoyed travelling and saw many different cities and countries throughout their lifetime together. Family holidays were spent at the family farm, Radium Hot Springs and one of the best was the trip to Disneyland in 1990, when all twenty-one of us enjoyed creating wonderful memories together. Mary and Murray made many lifetime friends, whether it was though hockey, billeting of students and athletes, Stampeder football, the Winter Club, or the Church. The past five years Mary has made many friends at her home, The Manor at Huntington Hills. Mom truly embraced all the activities and friendships she made there. Mom you lived life to the fullest, enjoyed all the wonderful things life had to offer and knew the true meaning of love and family. Mary will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mary taught us all well, her job is done here and time for her to dance with her love, Murray.
