Mary Susan Picken

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Beloved Mother, Mary Picken, 101, who passed away peacefully in Calgary surrounded by family. She will be lovingly remembered by her seven children: Doug (lsie), Bill (Bente), Dan (Maria), Rosemary (Tim), Susan (Wayne), Barbara-Ann (Derek) and Kathleen (Jim); 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. Our dear Mother was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Douglas Murray Picken.

Mary was born near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. When she was a very young child her family moved to Cochrane, a place dear to her heart filled with memories of a cherished childhood. As a young woman she moved to Calgary and lived in Lougheed Mansion while she was enrolled in a program for young women. She formed wonderful friendships there which led to her meeting our father. They celebrated 72 wonderful years of marriage. Mary celebrated every day of her life. She was a faith filled woman who started and ended her day with prayers. She loved spending time with family above all else. She also loved to read, play cards, listen to music, travel, camp, collect rocks, dance, laugh and visit "her" beloved Rocky Mountains. She will always be remembered for her love, devotion, sweetness, genuine smile and compassionate nature. Her memory will live in our hearts forever.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Visitation held at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 4 Street NW, Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Visiting and tributes will start around 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
