She was born in Sedalia, Alberta to Grant and Myrtle Field. Maxine’s family moved to Bowden where her father Grant managed the Alberta Wheat Pool elevator. ‘Mackie’ attended school in Bowden until she went to grade 12 at Red Deer Composite High. She always wanted to be a nurse and studied at the Misericodia School of Nursing in Edmonton. It was in Edmonton where she met the love of her life, Frank Enderton. They were married on June 8th, 1957 in Bowden and soon settled in the brand new development of Haysboro. The house on 94th Avenue was Mackie’s pride and joy where she spent many hours in her garden and entertaining.
Maxine and Frank were active members of the Haysboro Community association. She was also an original member of the South Calgary YMCA, and sang in the Chinook Winds Sweet Adeline Chorus. The family was an original member of St. Andrew’s United Church, where she also sang in the choir for decades. Maxine worked at and then managed at several care facilities in Calgary: Holy Cross Hospital, Vernon Fanning Centre and Carewest Sarcee.
In her retirement years, she was a dedicated Calgary Zoo docent. All who met Maxine respected her grace and indomitable spirit. Her gentle nature combined with a take-charge attitude inspired her family everyday.
