

Nancy Jear passed away peacefully on January 13, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband Hornby. Nancy will be sadly missed by her daughters Magnolia (Richard Low-On), Poinciana (Russell Wong), Persica (Jeff Nahuis) and Solana (Ken Broadhurst) and her grandchildren Megan (Derek Proudfoot), Jordan, Chad, Adam, Matthew, Dana and Bennett. She was born on August 22, 1932 in Toi San, Guangdong, China. In 1959, Nancy immigrated to Canada and married Hornby in Calgary. They ran New Way grocery store in Montgomery for several years before it was sold and she went to work at the Baker Centre in Bowness until her retirement in 1987. Nancy raised four beautiful independent daughters and adored her seven grandchildren. She was a kind, generous and energetic lady who loved cooking, sewing and gardening and was devoted to her family and friends. A Funeral Service was held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 1:00pm. Interment followed at Queen’s Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made directly to the Salvation Army Agape Hospice, 1302 – 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1B8. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Unit 57 in the Tom Baker Centre and particularly the staff at the Agape Hospice.
