It is with a heavy heart that we announce Nirmala Mistry has passed away peacefully in her sleep during the early hours of January 16, 2017 at the age of 80 years old.
Nirmala was born in Surat India into a family of three brothers and a sister. In Mumbai India, she later met and married her late husband Umedlal, with whom she had three children, Kalpana, Satish, and Nisha. Nirmala and family eventually embarked on a great journey in 1969 to Quebec Canada, where they resided for several years before eventually settling into a home in Calgary Canada. Nirmala would later move to White Rock, BC, where she was well known by her neighbours and friends as a kind and friendly woman who could often be seen going for walks in her traditional Indian saris. Nirmala was predeceased by her husband Umedlal in 1986 and is survived by her three children, her four grandchildren (who affectionately know her as Ba), and in the memories of all her loved ones. Nirmala possessed a great sense of humor and a distinct laugh, and was often found smiling. She had the ability to have intelligent conversations about current events, and was also a big fan of NHL hockey, especially the Calgary Flames, and eventually the Vancouver Canucks. Nirmala was a very independent woman, but always truly enjoyed socializing and spending time with others. She would always make sure that the family was well fed, and of all of them will tell you that she was a fantastic cook. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and will be forever remembered fondly, especially when watching The Price Is Right on a warm weekday afternoon.
