

She is survived by her son Jack (Karin) Guppy and daughters; Claire (Ray) Carlyon, and Carol (Russ) Williams, all of Calgary; her grandchildren; Emily, Nicole, Jeff, Lesley, Phil, and Ken. Norma has 2 great-granddaughters as well as her brother Jack (Judy) Scanlan of Winnipeg. Norma was predeceased by her husband Phil Guppy, parents Jack and Rene Scanlan, sister Beverly and grandson Matt.
Norma was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 19, 1929 and moved with her family to Saskatoon where she completed her schooling, met and married Phil.
Norma began her career in Saskatoon, working for CFQC radio station, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She and Phil later moved to Calgary where they raised their family. Once in Calgary Norma had a varied career, working part time at Simpson Sears while her children were growing up and then with the Calgary School Board as a library clerk, the University of Calgary administrative staff and finally retiring from ACTC Technologies. A life-long sorority sister, Norma was president of Beta Sigma Phi City Council 1964-65.
Norma loved travelling, camping, was an expert seamstress and was highly skilled at making pickles and freezing all the produce of her home garden. Norma loved her many dogs and daily walks through Confederation Park. For the last 10 years, Norma lived at the Manor Village Rocky Ridge Retirement Home where she helped manage the library, proofed community newsletters and was an active member of the Welcome Committee.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
