Patricia Perry passed away on March 27 at the age of 89 years. Born in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, the only child of Peggy and Andrew Paterson, Pat’s early years were spent in small towns across the prairies including Morin, Olds and Raymond. After the bank transferred her father to Montreal, Pat graduated from Montreal High School for Girls. She attended the University of Alberta and met Robert Perry whom she married in Wetaskiwin in 1953.
Pat and Bob then spent two years in Toronto where Bob completed his orthodontic training. In 1956, they moved to Calgary where Bob established his practice. Pat was active in the Junior League and the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae, and spent countless hours at the Glencoe Club playing tennis and bridge. She loved the outdoors and was a strong skier and hiker. Pat climbed a 9000 ft. peak to celebrate her 75th birthday, and after a full day on the slopes, when the rest of the family was tired, Pat always kept skiing until the lifts closed.
Pat travelled the world extensively with Bob, and later her boundless energy took her on adventurous trips - retracing Marco Polo’s Silk Road, hiking the West Coast Trail, trekking in Nepal, sea kayaking in Vietnam, and accompanying one of her grandchildren into the Amazon and to Machu Picchu. Pat especially loved spending time at the family cottage in southeastern British Columbia where she and the Perry children spent every summer.
Pat had a spirited nature and cheery disposition, and loved to gather the family around for Sunday dinners and special occasions. Above all else, Pat was a generous and devoted mother and grandmother.
Pat was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2018. She will be dearly missed by her children Susan (Brad Fox), Richard (Laura Perry) and Pamela (John Partyka); her grandchildren Graham and Hilary Fox, Ian, James and Georgia Perry, Andrew Partyka; and her great-grandchildren Penelope and Elliot Horan.
Pat moved into long-term care in 2017. The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at Walden Heights for their considerate care of Pat in her final years.
There will be no service at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Pat’s memory directly to the Calgary Humane Society, (4455 110th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 2T7).
