AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Philip Arthur Smith

16 janvier 1944 – 2 septembre 2025
Avis de décès de Philip Arthur Smith
AUX SOINS DE

South Calgary Funeral Centre and Crematorium

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Philip A. Smith, Phil, as he was known by his friends.

Beloved partner to Carol Croissant for over 40 years.

Devoted father to his three children; Judith Dolan (Jason), Caroline Smith (widowed) and Edward Smith (Kelly). Caring stepfather to Jeannette Murray, Jodie Richardson and Ken Richardson.

Cherished grandfather to his eight grandchildren; Shelby, Zefanie, Rayne, Alecia, Landen, Marley and Lucy. Admired step-grandfather to Alena, James, Kaitlyn, Jasper, Alex and Lucas, who lovingly called him “Uncle Phil”.

He is survived by his younger sister, Leslie Jack (Phil). He will also be missed by his extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; Gwen (nee Pickering) and Sydney Smith, and his grandson Paul.

Phil was born in Ayr, Scotland on January 16, 1944, and raised in Yorkshire, England. He immigrated to Ontario, Canada on September 3, 1974, with his young family to start a new life as a process engineer in the crude oil industry. Phil took great pride in his work. Eventually, Phil left Ontario to work in Alberta, where he resided for over 40 years with his partner.

Phil enjoyed summer vacations in Ontario at the family cottage, where he spent many happy days surrounded by his family. He was an avid listener of classical music, often playing pieces for his family and explaining the story behind them.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at South Health Campus for their dedication to our father’s comfort through their compassionate work.

Our Dad was a soft spoken, gentle, honourable man who will be missed beyond measure. Phil would often have outbursts of silliness and telling jokes. He will be remembered for his strength, resilience, sense of humour and dedicated role as an amazing Dad.

If people so wish, memorial donations may be made in Philip's name to the Canadian Lung Association.

A full obituary will be provided at a later date.
