Born and educated in Edmonton, Phyllis moved to Ontario in 1942 to marry high school sweetheart John who was serving in the RCAF. After the war they settled in northwest Calgary where they raised two sons and enjoyed close relationships with family and friends. They relocated to Cochrane in 2008.
In her younger years Phyllis was active in home and school and several church groups at North Hill (later Rosedale) United. She was fond of the mountains where she and John hiked on many of the popular trails. Phyllis was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, and an excellent cook who excelled at hosting family get-togethers. As the last surviving matriarch of the Frizzell-Digney clans, she took great pride and interest in all members of the extended families. Above all, Phyllis was always the loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister. We will miss her greatly.
Phyllis is survived by sons Greg (Bonnie) of Cochrane and Rod (Gloria) of Ottawa; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by husband John in 2011, after 68 years of devoted marriage; parents Roy and Catherine Frizzell; sisters Margaret Clarke and Doris Burton; and brother Howard Frizzell.
Interment at Queen’s Park Cemetery and a memorial family get-together will be scheduled at a later date.
Thanks to the staffs at Bethany-Cochrane and Big Hill Lodge for their care of Phyllis over the past few years.
