Mrs. Ragnhild Solberg

April 11, 1938 – January 6th, 2011

Rae passed away peacefully on January 06, 2011 after a long and difficult battle with cancer. Ragnhild Hvorup was born in Ringsaker, Norway and immigrated to Edmonton, Canada in 1956 to marry Jon Solberg also from Ringsaker, Norway in 1957. They moved on to Calgary in 1960 where they were residents ever since. Rae worked for the Calgary Board of Education at James Fowler High School for 25 years as an office assistant until she retired in 1993. She was well liked and respected by her colleagues, teachers and students over those years. Rae was involved with her husband Jon in supporting various community activities such as the Cambrian Heights Community Association, Girl Guides of Calgary and the Northmount YMCA in the 1970’s and 80’s. Rae enjoyed her family, was an avid golfer and had a great love of reading and politics. She and Jon travelled a lot including many trips to Norway and other destinations around the globe. Although Rae’s husband Jon passed away on April 30, of 2010 she is survived and sadly missed by her children; Ann (Rob), Thor, May (Claudio) and grandchildren; Jesse, Stephen, Natasha, Michael and Nina. She is also survived by an extended family in Norway. A Memorial Service was held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 3:00PM. Interment followed at Queen’s Park Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Agape Hospice, 1302 – 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1B8.
