Al is lovingly remembered by Lois, his beloved wife of 59 years and his dear children, Brian and Carolyn. He was predeceased by his parents Henry “Harry” Farnish and Mary Adelaide “Addie” Farnish as well as his brother George Farnish.
Al was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. As a youth, he was involved in many sports including hockey, rugby, football, and downhill skiing. Shortly after graduation from Western Canada High School, Al began a 35 year career at Alberta Government Telephones (A.G.T.) which later became TELUS. He was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers of America, one of the world’s largest corporate volunteer organizations. After retiring in 1993, Al was active with TELUS Community Ambassadors, volunteering in the Computers for Schools program. He worked with a team dedicated to refurbishing donated computers for community use. Al continued to play recreational hockey throughout his adult years, until deciding to hang up his skates for good at the age of 80. As a proud, lifelong Calgarian, he closely followed the Flames and Stampeders. Al also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the Sylvan Lake cabin. He was a skilled handyman, completing many home improvement projects over the years. Al was kind and generous, always there to help his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
