Bob was born on September 7, 1939, the only child of Robert A. Quinton and Willa Coultry, one of Southern Alberta’s pioneering families. Bob’s early years were spent in Okotoks with the family later moving to Calgary where he attended Central and Mount Royal High Schools.
Bob was an avid sportsman throughout his life; playing baseball, basketball and hockey as a youth and in his later years, becoming a regular on the tennis courts and bowling lanes at the Calgary Winter Club.
After graduating high school, Bob briefly attended the University of Oregon later graduating from Mount Royal College. Bob ultimately obtained his real estate brokerage license and took over Quinton Realty Ltd. when his father retired. While always a realtor at heart, Bob had an unconventional work life that allowed him and Babe, his beloved wife of 40 years, who predeceased him in 2003, to be “those parents” who were always in the stands, never missing the opportunity to cheer on Rhonda and Brent in their sporting and academic endeavours.
Bob and Babe raised their family in Varsity Village, and the Quinton home was always home base for the summertime games of kick the can, shooting hoops on the driveway and skateboarding and tobogganing down the crazy steep driveway. Their house was where the evening’s festivities started and usually ended, and their annual Boxing Day open house was epic.
Bob, together with Babe, were amazing parents who provided Rhonda and Brent with many unique life experiences and opportunities. Bob also loved to travel and together with Babe, they travelled the world. After Babe’s passing, Bob continued to travel the world but his special go to was Coronado, California where he spent the winter months. Bob had many lifelong friends and in his later years had his coffee buddies who he met up with every morning to discuss the stock market and world events and who were there to support him along his dementia journey even when he was no longer able to join in the conversation.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Rhonda and her children, Victoria (Mike Ozga) and Alexander and their father, Gord Kehler; and his son, Brent (Allison) and their children, Madison and Morgan. He will also be missed by his special friend Judy and Leanne, his tour guide on his dementia journey, along with those lifelong friends and neighbours who are still with us.
