She was born in Lipton, SK, moving to Sintaluta as a child, and then to Indian Head following Dave’s passing. Like her parents, Rose was an entrepreneur from the day she was born, owning and operating several businesses, including the $intaluta $avings $entre, the Loonie Toonie Store, and a Watkins franchise. Gramma Rose always maintained beautiful homes, yards and gardens. She loved to volunteer, particularly with the Catholic Church and community organizations, loved cooking (and was renowned for her perogies!), playing cards, curling and travel, taking many trips south to the US with Dave. Her last trip before falling ill, and something that always brought her joy, was going to the casino for her 84th birthday!
Mom had lived with dementia for the past fifteen years, but still lived a full life, with many friends and lots of laughs, always helping out the fellow residents of her seniors residence until she was hospitalized. She maintained her wicked sense of humour and love & caring for others right to the end.
She absolutely adored her grandsons, Cole and Reid, and pulled up stakes, moving “lock, stock and barrel” to Cochrane, AB in 2008, right after her first grandchild was born! Rose remained active for over a decade at Big Hill Lodge in Cochrane, and since last August, at Bow View Manor, along the banks of the Bow River, in Calgary.
Rose will be lovingly remembered and is survived by her son; Mark and his partner Orla, her special friend; Erin and grandsons; Cole and Reid, her brother; Norman and his partner Rose, and several nieces and nephews (the outlaws and in-laws!) on both sides of the Damm and Beutel families. She was predeceased by her husband; Dave, her parents; Albert and Emma, brothers; Ernest, Garnett and Frank (and her close friend and sister-in-law; Marie).
Cremation and internment in Sintaluta Cemetery next to her beloved Dave will follow at a later date.
Rose’s family wishes to express their deepest thanks for the amazing care provided by the Internal Medicine, Hospitalist and Palliative Teams, and particularly Dr. Workun and the nursing staff, of FMC Units 46, 31 and 81!
If friends so desire, memorial contributions to the Sintaluta Hall Board, Sintaluta, SK SOG 4N0, or to The Calgary Health Foundation - Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, Alberta, may be tokens of remembrance.
