Our very own “Alberta Rose” passed away peacefully at Rockyview Hospital on December 27, 2016, at the age of 100 years. Rose is lovingly remembered by her daughters; Elaine and Judy, and son-in-law, Chuck Sundberg. She was predeceased by Ernie, her husband of 62 years. Born in Oyen, Alberta to William and Minnie England, Rose was one of ten children (four of whom died as infants). The family moved to Calgary in 1926. Rose spent her early working years as a florist with Campbell Florists. She met Ernie when he was stationed in Calgary as a Sergeant at R.C.A.F. #10 Repair Depot. They married in 1944. Rose was a proud stay-at-home Mom and only returned to work when her children were in their teens. She worked for Hudson’s Bay Company for many years. She was very active in Southminster United Church. This was also her friendship circle and those friendships endured over 50 years. Rose’s life was one of service to others and she continued to assist in any way she could well into her 90’s. Her number one passion in life was her music and she played piano by ear. She also loved to garden and go for walks – she was always on the move. The family extends sincere thanks to Drs. Gitten and Athwal, and the wonderful nursing staff in Unit 83 at Rockyview Hospital. An informal memorial gathering will be held at Royal Park Retirement Residence, 4315 Richardson Rd SW, on Tuesday, January 10th, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Please drop in and “set-a-spell”.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, # 500, 1509 Center Street S.W. Calgary, Alberta T2E 7R1.
Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
