Rosella Laura Della Cooper

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Rosella “Toots”Laura Della Cooper (nee Rosenberger) less than a month away from her 94th birthday in Calgary, Alberta. She was the devoted wife of J. R. Barry Cooper for 57 years, and together they raised their family in Sudbury, Ontario.

Rosella started her life in Matheson, Ontario raised by her grandparents Bill and Della Godfrey. She first married Robert A. Matheson after his return from the war. Together they had six children before Bob became ill and passed at an early age. It was then that she moved with her children to Sudbury where she met and married Barry and had two more daughters.

A hardworking woman, Rosella retired after a long nursing career at Pioneer Manor. She was a dedicated Mormon, strong in her faith, she enjoyed her Sunday services as well as researching her family history going back almost two centuries. She was a passionate

gardener of both flowers and produce, spending many hours picking berries and making preserves with the help of her children. In her younger days, she enjoyed camping and fishing alongside her children and grandchildren. Her great sense of humor and willingness for adventure ensured she was always included in all family outings. She was a favorite sledding and quadding companion for her son-in-law Leo, as the family made memories together that they will cherish for years to come.

Her presence will be greatly missed by her children Brenda Foucault (husband Leo (deceased), Sharon Bertrand, Diane McEntire, Bonnie Matheson (Dennis Tierney (deceased), Bryan Matheson (deceased)(wife Carole), Robert Matheson, Cheryl-Lynne Cooper and Jayne Cooper. With a family of that size, many grandchildren and great children were inevitable, all of whom were very dear to her. Rosella and Barry were given the opportunity to develop special bonds with their grandchildren Jodie Mills (deceased), Kevin Wilcox, Kaitlin and Larissa Duchesne, each one shining a light on their lives that was cherished to the very end.

She is survived by her sisters Josephine Judd and Crystal Rumney. Predeceased by her siblings Viola Cudmore, Norma Compton, Bill Godfrey, Jim Godfrey, Margaret Kolbun, Rosella Gordon, Walter Godfrey, Henry Godfrey, Jim Matheson, Flora Cameron, David Rosenberger and parents Pansy Matheson and David Rosenberger Sr.

Together for all eternity, Rosella and Barry will be laid to rest with a graveside service in Princeton Cemetery at a later date.
