On Friday, July 26, 2019 Sun Yee Louie passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta at the Chinese age of 91 years with his family by his side.
Sun Yee was devoted to his family and will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Shirley, of 62 years. He was the beloved father of five children: May, Perry (Joan), Edward, Susan and Lily (Chad), and he was the proud grandfather of Talissa, Colton, Cassie, Hugh, and Bianca.
Sun Yee was born and raised in Toishan, Guangdong, China. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 in search of a better life. Sun Yee had great strength of character and was relentlessly hard-working. He continually persevered to create a better life for his family in Canada and back home in his village.
He learned the art of cooking western and Chinese dishes in many small towns like Revelstoke, Penticton and Williams Lake before settling down in Calgary with his wife in 1959. Sun Yee proudly worked many years as a chef and co-owner of Oriental Garden Restaurant.
Sun Yee was humble and selfless, and he always put others ahead of himself. Despite the many hardships and obstacles in his life, his heart and spirit always remained warm and kind. He was and always will be an inspiration to all of us. His kind heart, thoughtful deeds and generous smile will forever be missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary (DDRC), 4631 Richardson Way SW, Calgary would be appreciated by the family.
A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
