Thora Eirikson Fisher

June 25, 1926 – April 1, 2016

On Friday, April 1, 2016 we lost an amazing and gracious woman. Thora, wife of Dave Fisher passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years from an ailing but forever loving heart. She was Dave’s best friend and the love of his life for over 65 years. Thora was born on a farm near Markerville, Alberta to Groa and Eirik Eirikson. She was pre-deceased by her brothers: Gisli (Marg), Mundi (Rose) and Einar. After completing high school in Red Deer, she trained as a nurse at the Holy Cross Hospital, graduating in 1949. In 1950, Thora and Dave were married in Calgary. Thora continued nursing at the Holy Cross and at several medical clinics over the next 30 years. During that time Thora and Dave had four children. She leaves behind her husband Dave, son Bill (Ruby), daughter Diane (Rod), son Rob (Cathy) and son Don (Shelley) and eight beloved grandchildren: Kim, Allison, Andrew, David, Heather, Christine, Lane and Mark. Thora was a kind and gentle soul dedicated to her family, her nursing profession and countless friends, neighbours and relatives. She lived a full and inspiring life and is a role model for us all. We miss her deeply and will always carry her spirit with us. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Unit 64, McCaig Tower at the Foothills Medical Centre. Their kind, compassionate and competent care is deeply appreciated. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 10:00 am.
