Ty, I've been doing a lot of reminiscing lately. There's been so many great moments but these ones make me laugh the most. //

My first memory of you was in the 7A English class with Ms. Bernard. She assigned me to sit beside you on the same table. You were always so mischievous because anything I ever gave to you would never be returned in the same shape! I remember you grabbing my new Lip Smackers and twisted the entire lip chap into the cap, and would give it back to me. Or when you'd "ask" what kind of juice I was drinking and you'd give me back to me with 10% remaining. By process of elimination, I came to learn that you hated grapefruit juice… and also learned that it was my new favorite. //

But because of that class, we became really close friends. You introduced me to all sorts of music ("What.. you've never heard of Guns and Roses? How about the Eagles?!"). We even got to the point where we'd thought we could perform Bohemian Rhapsody at the Talent Show with you on the guitar and I on the piano... glad we didn't go through with that! //

In high school, you were one of the first to pride yourself with your own car. A red Honda Civic, if I recall correctly. You’d pack more people than seat belts into that car, and you'd always yank that e-brake whenever you got a chance. That got us into some trouble, haha! //

Without you and Theo’s daily urgency to get the best carpool parking rates and spots, Barbra and I would have never been able to get to our University classes on time! The number of laughs and car karaoke we’d have in Theo’s car were ones for the books. //

I’m thankful to have had you in a big part of my life. Your memory will live on in our hearts forever and till we meet again. Until then, I’ll stock up on grapefruit juice.

Leah and Keith, I am so sorry to hear of Tyler's passing. I am sincerely gutted to hear of your loss. 
Please know I am thinking about you. Both of you have always been so very strong and kind to everyone. This is the time to let everyone be strong and kind for you.

Ty, I wish I could have been at your Celebration of Life today… I’m sure you’re poking fun at me right now for how I’ve gotten so sick without really leaving my apartment and I’m laughing to myself about it now.

We were only a part of each other’s lives for what will feel like just a flash years from now, but I felt like I knew you for so much longer. You had a memory “like an elephant” and remembered me from elementary school… and even though I didn’t have memories of you from when we were kids, I’ll never forget our moments together we had in this last year.

I’m so grateful for the last memory I’ll have of seeing you last just three months ago — excited that we had re-connected, catching up, eating good food, just laughing at everything… thank you for being such great company in a time when I really needed it. You were so encouraging and proud of my recent accomplishments when I couldn’t even be that for myself and I looked forward to hearing about what would be the next big thing in your life.

The sadness comes in waves when I realize that just about a week after I had last sent you a message checking in, you had passed. I know that eventually this sadness will fade but I will never forget you.

My heartfelt condolences goes out to your family and all your friends as in the short time I knew you already had such a great impact in my own life that I can’t imagine the immense impact you had on theirs. 

Rest easy, T. I hope we’ll see each other again in the next life.

I met Ty when I was in elementary school. I first befriended his older brother Theo and whenever him and I hung out Ty inserted himself into whatever we were doing. Ty had an energy and a way of living that you couldn’t ignore. Whether it was his bold fashion choices as a kid… a bucket hat with nude girls on it and a dangling dolphin earring (he would hate me for bringing up this look btw) or his general larger than life personality that he grew into as an adult. Ty had a presence that I always found fascinating. He said how he felt, even if it wasn’t the best thing to say at that very moment. He was so unapologetically himself. I’m so grateful I got to spend 20+ years on this earth as his friend. I’ll remember the West Edmonton Mall trips, camping, snowboarding, nights out downtown getting into some kind of trouble (usually because of me) Watching the same handful of Seinfeld episodes he loved so much. Our stupid little inside jokes that nobody else thought were funny.  Walks with Gary then Vietnamese dinners at Trans-Canada Mall afterwards. He always knew what to say when I was feeling down and I hope that I did the same for him… I loved making him laugh and I can’t think of a bad time we had together. I hope that he is at peace and wherever he is, he’s looking out for all of us. I love you Ty ❤️

We will always cherish our memories of Ty, the sweet, shy, gentle and kind boy - ring bearer at our wedding. 

Know that we are thinking of you all, and sending our love, hugs and prayers during this difficult time. May each new day bring wonderful memories that ease your pain and warm your heart.

Tyler and I worked together for a few years at DIRTT in the procurement group. Right away he was very welcoming and we would go for lunch almost every day. It wasn't long before we would be pranking each other... Well, me pranking him. Tyler would always leave his computer unlocked when he would go run errands and when he returned I would make sure he came back to a new wallpaper... Usually a picture of a topless Patrick Swayze. I would hear him curse my name but we would always laugh about it after. To this day I am pretty sure he used whitening strips on Gary's teeth. 

A good man that has left us too soon. Rest in peace Ty.

Ty was once of the nicest and genuinely great guys I've met on the basketball court.  Whether it was playing against him or alongside him, it will never be the same.  Very sad to see you go man, you will be missed dearly.

My first memory of Ty was at the St Martha talent show. I remember he wore a frilly shirt with big glasses. He jumped on stage and shook his booty to the Austin Powers BBC song. I admired how much confidence and energy he had. It was hands down the most fun I've seen anyone have.

Ty and I never officially met until highschool, which was funny because we lived literally four houses down from each other. For a short while my late brother, Ronnie was even buddies with Ty, his brother Theo and their friend Kyle. They would skateboard around the block and attempt kick flips on neighbour's lawns or grinding on the corner sidewalk. 

Starting in our teenage years, Ty and I became very good friends. We both developed a love for sneakers and plaid shirts. We even began to dress like each other. I learned a lot about basketball and sports from him. Our trips to Mexico were always a ton of fun. 

I not only formed a close bond with Ty, but I also got to know him and his family. For the first time in a while, I felt like I belonged to a family. They welcomed me with such open arms and hearts. Although, over the past few years Ty and I became more distant, I am so glad to have made and shared a significant part of my life with him. 

He will always have a special place in my heart and I will never forget him.

I am going to miss you so much my friend. I remember all the times we shared together. School, camping, Mexico, basketball, golf. I will never forget. 

I will also never forget the last time I seen you, just this past summer. I remember how fit you looked, and your answer when I asked you how your life was going. You had told me you were doing good, and was hoping to settle down and live the family life at some point. It made me so happy to hear. You told me about a girl you were seeing, and how Dirtt was going. I also remember you suddenly doubting what you had going, and saying you were a p.o.s. I had told you how you were  so wrong, and how cut you looked, how you had a career going and girlfriend. And not to be so ridiculously hard on yourself. You stayed quiet for a few seconds and we went back to joking and  banter caused by the struggles of golf. 

I am so sorry Ty. If only I had known. I wish I could have helped more through whatever struggle you were going through. I never thought it would come to this... My heart is truly broken hearing this news.

I want to say Thank you Ty, for those words of encouragement you gave me when I lost my job. And for all the words of encouragement you have given me through-out our time together in life. They have lifted me up more than you know. I will never forget.

I truly believe we are spiritual beings living in a physical realm.  I know we will meet again. And till then my friend, I love you and will miss you dearly...

To Dad, Mom and Theo, my deepest condolences. I am so sorry.
