Velma Bryant (née Kvigstad) passed away peacefully in Calgary on January 29, 2018 at the age of 90 years. She follows her husband Dan, who predeceased her just 6 months ago. She will be lovingly missed by her four children, Richard (Heather), Randy (Debbie), Sharon (Walter Adolph), and David (Val). She leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Meghan Morden, Adam Bryant, Treena Primmer, Jarod Bryant, Derek Bryant, Bryan Adolph, Nicole Adolph, Jessica Pierson, Chelsea Spackman, Mark Pierson, Tanessa Bryant, and Mercedez Bryant. She enjoyed her time with all of them and with her 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Clarence, and all of her much-loved sisters, Evelyn, Anne, Alice, Irene, Esther, Cora and Grace.
Velma was born to John and Ruth Kvigstad on November 3, 1927, the seventh of nine children. The family farmed in the Metiskow region, and Velma told stories of a happy childhood playing with her sisters and helping on the farm. She went to Edmonton as a young woman, where she met and married Dan in 1950. Although she enjoyed her time working at Birks once all her children were grown, she often said that her greatest pleasure in life was to be a mother to her four children. She took great strength in her faith, which saw her through the past few years of challenges with her health.
The family would like to thank the staff of Chinook Hospice for their compassionate care for Velma and her family over the final weeks.
