

Wayne was born on February 25, 1952 to Fred and Dorothy Simons in Calgary.
Wayne attended Sunnyside and Capitol Hill Elementary Schools, Branton Junior High School for grades 7, 8 & 9, and William Aberhart High School in grades 10 & 11, and graduated from Crescent Heights High School.
He worked as a sanitation engineer and retired from the University of Calgary.
Wayne was an avid collector of coins and pins from childhood. He enjoyed attending Calgary Stampeders games, following the home team closely. On the flip side, Wayne thoroughly enjoyed watching the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Calgary Flames whenever they were playing in Calgary. Wayne also spent many hours with his friends working on their heritage building in Queenstown.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Dorothy Simons, and his younger brother Grant Simons.
A memorial reception will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Interment of the urn will follow at Burnsland Cemetery, 3020 Spiller Road S.E., Calgary.
Always loved, and one of a kind, we will miss his retelling of shared experiences and stories. Wayne will be dearly missed by many generations of cousins and life-long friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations may be made to the MEOW Foundation in Calgary to acknowledge Wayne’s great love for animals, especially his beloved feline friends.
