Bill Hawkins passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023 at Brentwood Care Centre in Calgary, Alberta with his wife Donna at his side. Born in Drumheller, Alberta on September 1, 1929, William moved to Calgary with his parents, Bill and Alice as a young boy. His shared hobby with his father was rockhound hunting and polishing rocks for jewelry. Later, Bill became interested in Ammonite, Alberta’s gemstone.
He attended Mount Royal College in Calgary and graduated from Oklahoma University with a degree in geological engineering followed by a long career in the oil patch primarily with Mobil Oil. Bill loved to travel and met his first wife Teruko while visiting Japan. Teruko passed away in 2011.
Bill was a long time member of the First Canadian Collectors Club and loved to share his extensive knowledge of antiques. He made many friends in the club and enjoyed his collections.
Bill is survived by his wife Donna Traub, her daughters Joan Traub and Cathy Smith and families, as well as his cousin Gary De Man. Thank you to Dr. Albuquerque and staff of the Sunnyside Ward at Brentwood Care Centre for the wonderful care Bill received.
A Memorial Gathering will be held for Bill’s friends and family at Foster’s Garden Chapel (3220 4 Street NW, Calgary) on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
