March 28, 1926 – July 23, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Willy Kuhn. Born on March 28, 1926 in Josefstal, Ukraine. Willy survived many trials and hardships in his young life. In 1950, Willy immigrated to Canada with dreams of becoming a cowboy. First working as a farmhand on a ranch near Fort McLeod, he quickly learned it wasn’t like the movies. After working on the farm, he moved to Calgary where he worked for Burns and Co. and met his future wife, Jean. He was a very hard worker, doing various jobs before settling at the Calgary Board of Education where he worked for 22 years. He eventually became a roofing foreman and retired in 1991. Strong in his faith and an active member of the Lutheran Church, Willy spent many hours volunteering, ushering and providing support where needed. Willy and Jean married on June 28, 1956 and together they raised four children: Alan, Brian (Dianne), Annette (Darren), Shane (Sue), 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Anna in Germany and several cousins. A Funeral Service will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church, 3104 – 34 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, 100-119 14 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta, T2N 1Z6. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
