Our hearts are breaking as we announce the passing of our great and much loved Mother. Colleen was born in Kitchener in 1925. She grew up at the “mansion” on Union Blvd with her 6 brothers and 5 sisters. She is predeceased by her parents George and Madeline Malleck. Mom married Dad (Frank) in 1948 and moved to Queen St in Preston where “the boys”, David (Laura) and Tim (Lyne) were born. In 1954 the Hobler’s moved to “The Crescent” and soon after “the girls” arrived, Ann (Ron) and then Madeline (Johnathan). The Crescent was a great place to live and the neighbours were all so helpful to our Mother when Dad went to St. Luke’s. The Crescent neighbours continued to watch over our Mother and we are so grateful for their love, help and companionship. She couldn’t have stayed at “the house” without your help. Grandma Hobler will be extremely missed by her grandchildren Suzanne (Dave), Ian (Laura), Sarah (Adam), Breanna, Zackery and Matthew. GG will also be missed by her much loved great grandchild, Emma and her unofficial grandchildren Jane, Dan and Jayelle. Special thanks to Sharon her caregiver. Through her daily visits Sharon became a special friend to our mother. Our friends all loved our mother, especially Michel her “other” son and Mary Ann her “third” daughter. Mom was also a “Canadian” Mom to her Scottish friend Mary. We would also like to thank Mom’s guardian angel, Mary J. at the Cambridge Hospital. We could never thank her enough for the love and care she always showed our Mother. Mom was an amazing person. She was kind, generous, feisty and stoic. In the last number of years she underwent many surgeries and went through it all without complaints, just determination to get out and go for her walks again. Everyone Mom met instantly enjoyed her spirit. She loved watching sports especially golf and curling both of which she never played. We were so lucky to have had her in our lives for so long. We will miss you so much Mom. Mom was predeceased by Dad, his parents Frank & Veronica Hobler, her siblings James, Richard, Susan, David, Basil, Ann and her little brother Paul. Also predeceased by her Hobler in-laws; Catherine, Shirley, Fran & Ladd and Malleck in-laws Joe, Neil, Mabel, Rita and Bonnie. Mom is survived not only by her children, grandchildren and great grandchild but also by her siblings, Mary (Ross), Joanne, Betty (Bill) and John. She was a special sister-in-law to Adam and Ross and Dorothy, Jackie and Leone. Mom was a favourite Aunt to her many, many nieces and nephews in both the Hobler and Malleck families. Mom, our lives are great because you were a part of them. We miss you so much already. Say Hi to Dad! We would also like to send a big thanks to all the considerate people, including EMS, Police and Fire who assisted our mother when she collapsed at the bank, as well as the great emergency room staff at the hospital. Prayers for our Mother will be said at the BARTHEL FUNERAL HOME, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge (519) 653-3251 at 1:45
