With deep sadness, we share the peaceful passing of Donald George Schumacher on June 10th, 2025 at the age of 81. Don was a devoted father, proud grandfather, caring uncle and loyal friend. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Don leaves behind his loving children Dennis and Trina, and his four adored grandchildren: Jami, Evan, Emma, and Jesse. Don’s memory will also live on through many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to niece Susan Hind, whose love, support, and companionship has meant so much over the years.
We take comfort in the fact that Don is now reunited with his beloved wife and best friend Catherine Schumacher (2012) and his cherished son John “Danny” Schumacher (2014). The bond they shared will continue beyond this life.
Don was a man of loyalty and dedication. He spent his entire working life with Union Gas, beginning and ending his career with the same company. Outside of work he was endlessly resourceful and always on the move. He could often be found building something by hand, fixing what needed repair, or simply puttering around finding things to be done.
He had a lifelong love for baseball, especially his beloved Toronto Blue Jays. He immersed himself in the game as a player, a coach, and a passionate fan. Don’s greatest joy, however, was time spent with his family – especially at the cottage, where he made countless memories with his grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Hilltop Manor for the compassionate and dedicated care they provided to Don during his time there.
Don’s family would like to invite all who knew and loved him to join them in celebrating him. A celebration of life will be held at the family’s home, 56 Grant Street, Cambridge, on Sunday June 22nd from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Burial will take place on Monday, June 23rd at 11:00 AM at Mount View Cemetery, 80 Blenheim Road.
