Passed away on Sunday morning, February 15, 2015, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in his 90th year. Dear father of Barbara. Predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Claire, in 2002, and his only son, whom he adored, Jeffery, who passed away in November of 2013. Mr. Stuart has been a resident of Cambridge his whole life. A World War II veteran, to say he was proud to have served his country, would be something you would know about Doug instantly upon meeting him. His love for Canada was evident in all he stood for. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 126 in Cambridge for over 60 years, and just recently received a medal of honour that recognized that allegiance. Mr. Stuart has also been a devoted member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for even longer, considered to be one of the remaining elders of the church. His passion was golf, a sport that he shared with his son over the years. His other passion was a love of life, and the spreading of good will to all he met. He was a kind and loving man. He will be dearly missed by his daughter and her family, his daughter in-law Debbie and all his nieces and nephews – of which individually, he had a special relationship with each and every one of them. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge (519-653-3251) on Thursday evening, February 19th, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a special service for Mr. Stuart at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The formal funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 810 King Street East, Cambridge, on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Parklawn Cemetery.
