Gerardus “Gerry” Johannes DeLange passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the age of 90. Gerry was born on June 22, 1926 and immigrated to Canada in 1952. His wife Mia followed one year later. Together, they settled in London, Ontario and became proud and happy Canadians. Many will remember Gerry for the two construction companies he started with his partners and best friends Harry and Mike, Lanaar Construction and Northside Construction. Gerry also loved camping and the outdoors, and was a skilled woodworking craftsman. He made a variety of things from wood, such as bowls and bookshelves, and would selflessly give away his creations to family and friends. Most notably, he built a crib for each of his children’s first child. Left behind to mourn his passing is the love of his life, and wife of 63 years, Mia DeLange. He will be dearly missed by his children Trudy Scott (Ian), Gerry DeLange (Judi), Berny DeLange (Loreena), Betty Praught (Bill), Fred DeLange (Nancy), Mia Robson, and Mark DeLange (Shiela). He will be lovingly remembered by 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and his two sisters Reit and Garrie. A gathering will be held in Gerry’s honour at Barthel Funeral Home (566 Queenston Rd. Cambridge, ON 519-653-3251) on Sunday, November 6 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church (745 Duke St. Cambridge, ON) on Tuesday, Novemeber 8 at 10:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
