

Mieczyslaw “Mike” Nowakowski 1927-2012. Passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the age of 85 years. Loving husband of Emma Nowakowska of Cambridge; dedicated brother to his seven siblings, the four surviving being his twin sister Genovefa, sister Hanna, and brothers Czeslaw and Zdzislaw; devoted father to Andy Nowakowski, Mike (Nancy) Nowakowski of Kitchener, Anita Neu of Brampton, Darrin Nowakowski (Laura Brown) of Toronto and son-in-law Sergei (Shanna) Yerin of Kitchener. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Tanya (Charlie) Welch, Eric and Nathan Nowakowski; Tasha (Dustin Jacobs) and Jozef Neu; Xavery, Lilia and Darius Brown-Nowakowski of Toronto; Christina Yerin of Kitchener; and his six great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Josef (1972) and Barbara (1985); first wife Lidia (1987), mother of his four children; sisters Stanislawa (2003), Danka (1982) and Adela (2010); mother-in-law Anna Budziarz (2009) and son-in-law Joseph Neu (2010). Mike was born in Jaroslaw, Poland on April 1, 1927, and came to Cambridge in 1966 with his family. He will long be remembered by the family for his incredible determination, generosity and strength of character. Mike was known for having fervent opinions on many matters, particularly anything involving politics in Canada and back home in Poland. He loved an energetic conversation and a humorous song or joke. Mike’s passion was his extensive vegetable garden, which he tended with great care for as long as he was physically able. His pickles were also an important family tradition. Mike was a retiree of Weston Bakery in Kitchener following his construction engineering career in Poland. The family will receive friends at Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge 519-653-3251 on Friday, July 27, 2012 from 4-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 3 pm at Barthel Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge.
