Beloved wife of the late Lawrence, loving mother of Lawren (John), the late Jeff (Betty), Jamie (late Brian), and Tracy. Proud grandmother of Lisa (Jeff), Matt (Alex), Jacky (Joe), Annie (Ahmed), and Erik. Great-grandmother to Claire, Everett, Elliott, Edie and Parker. She was predeceased by her parents Harold and Nellie, her two sisters Dorothy and Eleanor, and her sister-in-law Barb.
She was born and raised in Hamilton. She met Lawrence at a high school dance and it was love at first sight. They were married for 68 years. They raised a family with love, respect, and the love of life. Shirley loved being a stay at home mom. She loved to cook, bake, garden, read, sew, listen to music, cross country ski, camp, and dance. The radio was always on at home, yet her longest passion was Lawrence.
In the 70s they did their first trip away and after that, they travelled the world.
In a flash, Shirley became ill with dementia. Anyone who has had to watch a loved one go through this knows it is a nasty, mean disease. To watch the one you love fade away slowly, until they are a lost soul.
Shirley's last day was spent with family, listening to her favourite music. Having her family remind her of the wonderful life she had and how much she was loved. It was time to rest and go to her Lawrence and Jeff - her boys.
There will be no service at this time, a celebration will be held at a later date.
