It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Thomas James Coughlin. Tom died peacefully at home with his two children by his side after a courageous battle with cancer on September 24th, two days after his 78th birthday. He leaves behind his son Chris (Lori), his daughter Jenn (Garrett) Hesson, and his grandchildren, Cameron, Taylor, and Nolan. He is survived by his sibling, Judy (Roger) Dewaele, and his former spouse Nancy (Schindler). He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Ruth (Weiler), and his brother Robert (Joyce).
Tom was well known in the Preston community where he spent all of his life, working as a barber and a dedicated mail carrier with Canada Post. Everyone knew to always show up at Tom’s place hungry. Beef BBQs, homemade pizza, chicken wings, soups, stews and more. There was always something on the menu, regardless of the time of day or night. Many will remember Tom for his determination (some may say stubbornness) and for always wanting to put a smile on your face. He was fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren and spoke often about them to everyone who would listen.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Tom on Saturday October 7th, from 1:00-4:00 pm at the Galt Curling Club (1610 Dunbar Road, Cambridge). There is no formal program, so feel welcome to drop in anytime between 1:00 and 4:00 pm to honour Tom’s memory.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.barthelfuneralhome.com for the Coughlin family.
