Born in England, Veronica married Frank Berges of Preston in October 1945 and moved to Canada in 1946. She was a member of the Women’s Auxillary Air Force from 1941 – 1945. Veronica loved gardening, hiking the Bruce Trail, cross-country skiing, cooking, and reading. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and the British crosswords. Veronica treasured the visits from her grandchildren so she could share in their interests. She was the kind of caring person who would do anything for you, and we all respected her for her quiet strength. Veronica will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children Rita Clapperton, Anne Bauer, Marie Berges, Paul Berges (Cathy), and Hugh Berges (Louise Sharpe-Berges), grandchildren Paula Bauer (Paul da Cruz), David Bauer, Pamela Bauer, Jonathan Berges (April Hazan), Sarah Lafleche (Tim Lacy), Heather Clapperton, and Meilanie Sharpe-Berges, great-grandchildren Alicia Beckett, Austin Struthers, Madeleine Lafleche, Alexandre Lafleche, Hailey Clapperton, Chloe Clapperton, Levi Berges, Beau Berges, Amelia Bauer, and Isaac Bauer, and her great-great-grandchild Malakai Clapperton. Veronica was predeceased by her parents Bertram and Mildred Walmesley-Cotham, brother Lawrence Walmesley-Cotham, sisters Margaret Wright and Jeanette Morris, her beloved husband Frank Berges (2001), and her grandson Peter Bauer (2022). Friends and relatives are invited to the Funeral Mass at St. Clement’s Parish (745 Duke St, Cambridge) on Thursday, June 9th at 10:00 am. Interment at Parklawn Cemetery, and a reception to follow at Barthel Funeral Home (566 Queenston Road, Cambridge). As expressions of sympathy, donations to the St. Mary’s Hospital or the Grand River Hospital for MRI’s would be appreciated.
