Ann was born on April 29, 1933 in Amherst, NS, to the late Austin Loring and the late Myrtle Johns. She is deeply missed by her children Steven Wadsworth (Oakville ON), Graham Wadsworth (Mission BC), Jennifer Wadsworth (Houston TX) and Dean Wadsworth (McLeods NB) and by her grandchildren Adam, Thomas, Stuart, Logan and Bill.
A dedicate nurse, Ann’s long career at the Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital impacted many lives. She worked as a staff nurse and nursing supervisor, as well as a travelling ambulance nurse. She served as president of the volunteer organization VON. She was confident in her nursing skills and was never afraid to take a difficult case. Ann was a strong advocate for nurses and was deeply involved in the nurse’s union for better conditions. She was a mentor for many young new practitioners.
Ann trained at the Montreal General hospital in the early 1950s, where she met her future husband, Don. Naturally she broke all the rules by dating a handsome patient, and legend has it that she chased away all his other girlfriends with her fierce demeanor. They were married in January 1955 and lived in Montreal, then Moncton, Truro, Grand Falls, before finally settling in Campbellton in 1970. They loved the nature and community that the town had to offer and built strong roots here.
Ann is remembered as being kind, intelligent, funny, adventurous, and generous. She had a common-sense, down-to-earth attitude and was renowned for her acerbic wit. You could always count on her to speak her mind and give you some wise advice. In her younger years she loved a good party, high-heeled shoes, and sewing exquisite clothing. In her golden years she enjoyed reading, knitting, piano and travel.
Per Ann’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation. A celebration of life is planned for July 2026.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at maherfuneralhomes.com for the family.
