Sheila, from all Douglas' cousins in Northern Ontario, we send our heartfelt condolences. To Sheila and the Downs family, my sincere condolences on the loss of Doug. Doug and I served together in the same platoon in Cyprus in 1991-92 and Bosnia in 1992-93.  He was great fun and a wonderful character. The second tour was not easy and I have never forgotten Doug's humour and positive attitude.  I am so very sorry I never got to catch up with him and have a beer and few laughs about those times.  A great bloke, whose loss is clearly felt by a great many people - the sign of a life well lived.

I was fortunate to have met and spent time with Doug both in 2015 & 2016; I am so glad I was able to know him as a friend.  His unique personality and kind spirit will not be forgotten.

Sheila and the boys, we are so sorry to hear about your tragic sudden loss. Douglas Downs, aka Double "D" was an inspiration to us all in the Military Postal Trade. The sad loss of an amazing man. Doug will be missed by so many. I'll never forget him and his huge heart. Doug made my son's birthday amazing one year, he was beyond happy to have Doug come over to pull him and his friends around the yard on the snowmobile and we will never forget it. My son was always so grateful and proud that he and Doug built a ramp for him to use with his bicycle on Maple St. We thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. His comforting words had helped me through some of my own loss of family members. His gift of a Coleman 242B Sport Lite lantern is that much more treasured now that he has gone home.  Our simple words cannot alleviate the pain of your tragic loss, but we hope you can find some solace in the knowledge that Doug touched so many lives around the world. We grieve along with you and share your pain and suffering.
 Doug has left a permanent mark on our Coleman community and our gatherings and conventions shall always bear the shadow of this great man.
