

Elizabeth Hazel Green was born in Windsor, Ontario on February 21, 1920, and died in Matapedia, Quebec on October 9, 2017. Her parents William Smith and Mary Ritchie Smith immigrated to Ft. William, Ontario from Edinburgh, Scotland in 1902. She was the youngest of 6 siblings all of whom predeceased her; Thomas Smith (Rita), Agnes Blonde (Carl), Helen Cunningham (Clarence), William Smith (Mary), Mae Wright (Allister).
She was the first in her family to attend college, and after graduating from Normal School she taught PE at Victoria Collegiate in Windsor, ON.
She married Hugh Raymond Green of Woodstock, ON June 27, 1942 and moved to Montreal, QC where she was active at St Marks Anglican Church in Ville St. Laurent. She loved gardening, sewing, knitting, needlepoint, cross country skiing, playing bridge, and spending time with friends and family.
She went back to teaching 7th grade at Royalvale School in Hampstead, Montreal, becoming a Math specialist, and teaching on early Educational Television. She became the Director and Producer of English Educational Television for the Province of Quebec until her retirement in 1980.
With her husband, Hugh, she traveled extensively around the world. Bette was an avid photographer and won awards for her work. Bette and Hugh moved to Sun City, AZ where they lived joyfully for 25 years. They became American Citizens. They were very active in the United Church and loved golfing. Subsequently they decided to move to Atlanta to be near family.
Hugh Raymond Green died August 25, 2008 in Atlanta, GA. His interment was in the Mudgett Cemetery in Sutton, Quebec. Bette moved in 2010 to Sutton, QC to live with her son Ray.
She is sadly missed by her daughter Elizabeth Ann Robertson (William) of Callawassie Island, SC, and son Raymond William Green (Carla) of Campbellton, NB; Grandchildren Christine Elizabeth Robertson of Palm Coast, FL, Bruce William Robertson and Kelly, of Baltimore, MD; Great Grandchildren William Sutton Robertson and Andrew Ramsay Robertson; Grandchildren Jonathan Green, Leonard Mudgett {Karen}, James Mudgett, Chris Mudgett {Claudia},Caroline Mudgett, and great grandchildren Zack, Abbey, Madison, and Dante.
Bette is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews as well.
The family wishes to thank the staff and doctors at the CHSLD at Matapedia and Maria and the Campbellton Hospital for their wonderful care of Betty.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to a charity of your choice or to disaster victim relief.
Service to be announced at a later date.
Interment: cremains will be placed with Hugh’s in the Mudgett Cemetery in Sutton, Quebec at a later time.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Maher’s Funeral Home, Campbellton.
