Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Patsy Parker (née Mundle); and his three sons: Brent (Claudia) of Saint John, NB; Ryan (Mandy) of Listuguj, PQ; and Chad (Emily) of South Korea. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Isabella, Noah, and Joy.
Family was at the heart of everything Gary did. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved—whether it was a simple family supper, a spirited game of cards, or cheering on his kids and grandkids in their pursuits. He was a steady presence, a source of wisdom and humour, and a constant support to those closest to him. Predeceased by his parents, Ronald and Beatrice Parker, and his sister Kay, Gary will be deeply missed by his siblings: Jackie (Yvette), Ronald (Adrienne), Joan Firth(Aubrey), Carol Ann Harquail (Lionel), Wayne (Debbie), Georgie (Lisa), Terry (Lise), Heather (Pierrot), Gail Maxwell (Derek), as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A lifelong resident of Campbellton, Gary was a familiar and friendly face in the community. He served proudly on City Council and was deeply involved in minor sports as both a coach, manager and player of hockey and baseball. He was an avid golfer, a fierce washer toss competitor, and an exceptional card player, much to the chagrin of his mother-in-law and sons. Gary never turned down a game with family or friends—he was always up for the challenge.
Gary spent his working life in the Campbellton area. He began as a counsellor at the Restigouche Hospital Centre, later worked at the Fraser Mill in Atholville until its closure, served at the Campbellton Civic Centre as an Icemaker, and finished his career in the laundry department at the Campbellton Regional Hospital.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care staff at the Campbellton Regional Hospital, and to medical staff in Bathurst and Halifax, for the care and compassion shown to Gary during his illness.
As per his wishes, a memorial service will be held at the Anglican Church on Friday July 25th at 11 am with visitation 1 hour before.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church Anglican or a charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.maherfuneralhomes.com for the family.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted in the care of Maher’s funeral Home, Campbellton.
