Ghislain Pitre

Né à Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia, Québec, le 17 novembre 1938, il était le fils de feu Marie Martin et de feu Padoue Pitre.

Ghislain a été marié à Rachel Poirier pendant 51 ans. Ils ont eu deux fils : Jean-Yves (Melissa Stobart) et Stéphane, prédécédé par sa conjointe, Loida « Gina » Caldwell. Il laisse dans le deuil ses trois petits-enfants : Sophie, Elizabeth et Forrester, ainsi que plusieurs beaux-frères et belles-sœurs, neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines et amis. Il était prédécédé par son frère, Guy Pitre (Louise).

Ghislain et Rachel ont vécu à Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia pendant 45 ans avant de s’établir à Pointe-à-la-Croix, Québec. Ghislain a ensuite résidé au Pavillon Ste-Hélène, puis au CHSLD de Matapédia.

Ghislain aimait grandement le plein air, particulièrement la magnifique vue sur la rivière Matapédia depuis le seuil de sa maison. Il chérissait les promenades du dimanche avec Rachel et ses fils lorsqu’ils étaient jeunes, une tradition qu’il a poursuivie même après leur départ de la maison. Ses petits-enfants mettaient toujours une étincelle dans ses yeux. Il a d’abord travaillé à la réparation de radios, puis, avec Rachel, il a acheté le restaurant de ses parents, Chez Pitre, où ils ont travaillé avec dévouement pendant 30 ans. Ghislain était membre honoraire des Chevaliers de Colomb et de l’Association de l’épilepsie. Passionné de musique, il jouait de la batterie dans un groupe avec ses deux beaux-frères, Bobby et Denis, ainsi qu’un ami, Gary.

Il restera dans les mémoires pour son sourire chaleureux et sa présence calme et discrète.

Au lieu de fleurs, des dons peuvent être faits à l’Association de l’épilepsie ou à l’organisme de bienfaisance de votre choix.

Les funérailles auront lieu à l’Église de Sainte-Hélène,

Ghislain Pitre passed away peacefully at CHSLD Matapédia, Québec, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the age of 87.

Ghislain was born in Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia, Québec, on November 17, 1938, the son of the late Marie Martin and the late Padoue Pitre.

Ghislain was married to Rachel Poirier for 51 years. They had two sons Jean-Yves (Melissa Stobart) and Stéphane, predeceased by his partner, Loida “Gina” Caldwell. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Sophie, Elizabeth, and Forrester, as well as his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Guy Pitre (Louise).

Ghislain and Rachel lived in Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia for 45 years before moving to Cross Point, Québec. Ghislain later resided at the Pavillon Ste-Hélène, and then at CHSLD Matapédia. Ghislain loved the outdoors, especially the beautiful view of the Matapédia River from his doorstep. He cherished Sunday drives with Rachel and his sons when they were young, a tradition he continued even after they left home. His grandchildren always brought a twinkle to his eyes. He began his career repairing radios and later, with Rachel, purchased his parents’ restaurant, Chez Pitre, where they worked together diligently for 30 years. Ghislain was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and the Epilepsy Association. A passionate music lover, he played drums in a band with his two brothers-in-law, Bobby and Denis, and a friend, Gary.

He will be remembered for his warm smile and quiet, gentle presence.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Epilepsy Association or to a charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at Église de Sainte-Hélène,

45 Berthelot Street, Cross Point, Québec.
