Mom was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario in 1925. She and her parents returned to Newcastle when she was a toddler. At age16, and a senior at Harkins Academy High School, they moved to Campbellton. Although not pleased with the move, Mom was soon welcomed to CHS and made many life-long friends. Shortly after the war, she met our father and they married in 1946. Our home in Brookside Park was a busy and welcoming one, always filled with friends and family. Family get-togethers consisted of much music, singing, laughter, and plenty of food. Mom and Dad enjoyed some travelling abroad and, of course, many trips visiting their children and grandchildren. After we all left elementary school, Mom had many jobs: Eaton's, teaching school, filling in for Leah Wilcox at Dr. Rice’s office, and bookkeeper at Shoppers Drug Mart, from which she retired.
Mom truly enjoyed her many years singing with the Chaleur Echoes. She would always write humorous poetry about each trip they took to competition, chronicling the escapades and experiences the” girls” had. Mom loved to sing and did so at every opportunity. Being a member of the United Church Choir was very important to her.
She is survived by her children, Brian, Brentwood Bay, BC, Rick (Linda), Campbellton, Mary Jane (John Bongard), Richmond Hill, Ont., and William (Camille) Fredericton. Also grieving are her brothers, Bob (Diane) of Amherst and Fred (Marilyn) of Moncton, and many nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren, Jeff, Jennifer, Emily, Katy, Sarah, Mitchell and David and great grandchildren Gina and Chloe will miss her gentle spirit and love. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Jud, her parents, Joe and Greta Hanley and her brother, Bud, of Bathurst.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 31st, 2022 at 2pm with visitation from 1pm until funeral time.
We would like to thank the staff at the Village Nursing Home for their compassionate care and Carelyn Carrier, a longtime family friend. We would also like to acknowledge the close friendship between Mom and Mary Roy. Mary visited Mom almost every day and many cups of tea were consumed over the years.
Mom enjoyed life, loved her children, and cherished her friends.
