

The family of Maurice Roy, originally of Campbellton, New Brunswick, would like to announce his passing at the age of 78 on February 18th, 2024 in Halifax, NS. Born on May 3rd, 1945, he was the son of the late Arthur and Isabelle (Boudreau) Roy.
Maurice was a well-respected teacher and administrator throughout his 36 year career in Campbellton, New Brunswick. He was known for his kindness and patience with students, as well as his emphasis on building positive relationships.
Maurice was a talented hockey player, leading his university hockey team, the St Dunstan Saints (now UPEI) to the 1965 Canadian Intercollegiate Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In the 1965-66 season he scored 29 goals in 14 games, and still remains in 9th place for the most goals scored in a season in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) history. In 2017, Maurice was inducted to the PEI Sports Hall of Fame. After a successful university career, he returned to Campbellton, New Brunswick to play for the Campbellton Tigers and Oldtimers for many years. Maurice also had a passion for golf, skiing and basketball. For many years Maurice enjoyed his role as chairman of the Campbellton Sports Hall of Fame. Maurice married his wife and life partner Sharon, in Campbellton in 1969 and they were married for 54 years. They spent the majority of their lives raising their family in Campbellton. In 2010, they moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where they were able to fully enjoy their role as grandparents. Above all, Maurice will be remembered for being a devoted father and loving grandfather.
Maurice is survived by his wife Sharon (Keays) Roy, his sons Jason Roy (AJ) of Toronto, ON, Ashton Roy (Kristen) of Bedford, NS; brothers Gerry of Gatineau, QC, Lou (Susan) of Victoria, BC, Romeo “Bunny” (Anette) of Riverview, NB, Paul (Anita) of Kanata, ON ; sister Jeannine of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren Rosemary and Evelyn of Bedford, NS. He was predeceased by brother Raymond and sisters Yvette and Francine.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. For those who wish to donate, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
