Aaron Samuel “Sam” Barrick was set free from his pain on October 25, 2023, after a valiant fight with Stage 4 colon cancer. Sam was born in Bedford, Texas on May 17, 1996 to parents Leigh Ann and Aaron. Their beloved son grew up in Coppell, Texas, and graduated from Coppell High School in 2015 before attending Ole Miss (University of Mississippi), following in both his mother and father’s footsteps. Sam was a proud Rebel, and he thrived on campus where he was an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Sam loved sports, playing tennis in high school and teaching tennis at college, and he followed Ole Miss teams faithfully, along with the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and Texas Rangers.
After graduation, Sam moved back home and started working for Republic National Distributing Company as a Territory Sales Representative. He loved the team he worked with and was a natural at his job. Sam put anyone and everyone at ease when he met them. He had a natural way of making you feel like you were his best friend.
Sam was also a fighter. He had multiple surgeries, over 50 rounds of chemotherapy, and numerous radiation treatments and did so with the mindset and optimism that he was going to beat this cancer no matter what curveballs were thrown at him. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Sam showed up every day with a smile on his face and was determined to never quit. He also worked to raise awareness and funds for colon cancer research.
Sam was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Willou Copeland Smith; his paternal grandfather, Paul Campbell; his paternal grandmother, Neryl Barrick, and her husband, Michael Barrick. He is survived by his parents; his maternal grandfather, Bill Smith; his aunt, Kate Campbell; his cousin, Matilda “Tillie” Campbell; his uncles, Justin Barrick, Shawn Barrick, and Cal Smith (Sara); his cousins, Will and Cope Smith; and his cherished vizsla puppies, Maggie and Maverick.
The family wishes to extend their sincere and deep gratitude to UT Southwestern, which showed Sam incredible grace throughout his cancer battle, as well as to Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas, where he lived out his final weeks.
A memorial service celebrating Sam’s life and the incredible impact he had on those who were blessed to know and love him will be held at 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, November 11, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, at 420 S. Heartz Road in Coppell.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be directed to Colorectal Cancer Alliance in Washington, D.C., or Faith Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas.
